About Tg. Ocna Region
Targu Ocna is a town in Bacau Country, Moldavia, Romania. It has a population of 13.598 inhabitants. The town has been declared mountain resort because of its springs and the treatment halls from Salina Mine .
This very picturesque region is situated between the Carpathians and the Sub Carpathians mountains. The resort offers a very special environment for balneo-climatic treatments with mineral water curing springs and a salty climate favorable for the treatment of asthmatic deseases.
In the heart of Moldavia in Romania, on the picturesque Trosului Valley, there is Targu Ocna Saul Mine, close to Tg. Ocna town from Bacau Country. Having access from Bacau through Onesti and Tg. Secuiesc, the town is situated about 50 km and 80 km respectively far from these two localities. In the sanatorium at 130 meters deep, asthmatic diseases, over demand syndromes, neurosis are treated. There is also the possibility to have anti – rheumatic treatment in the underground sanatorium.
The St. Varvara Church and the sanatorium – the biggest underground sanatorium in Europe – give you the impression of a sunken town in the depths and rediscovered to be given again.
The Raducanu Monastery was built in the 17th century. The church of the monastery rebuilt in 1753 by the great boyar Radu (Raducanu) Racovita, together with the tower, the belfry and the defense wall constitute a representative monument for the late Moldavian baroc and valuable ensemble of mural paintings.

The Turistic Potential of the Region
Slanic Moldova Resort – situated in the Eastern Carpathians (530m altitude) 18 km south – east from Tg. Ocna and 84 km far from Bacau , on the Slanicului Valley . Slanic Moldova Resort (known as the Pearl of Moldavia) is well-known both in the country and abroad for its treatments and picturesque landscapes. The mineral waters are used in the treatment of digestive, liver, lungs, nutritional and metabolism diseases, rheumatic and heart diseases like neuron-asthenia and professional diseases.

The Stirbei Castle – at the end of a 3 km road far from Darmanesti, in a millenary forest we find an important castle that belonged to the Stirbei family. It is the greatest monument in Bacau County.
“Poiana Uzului” Barrage - is incorporated in the Tarcau sand store from Pivniceri being 84 m high and 507 m long. The length of the accumulation lake is of 3,8 km, with a 334 ha and a volume of 98 million m 3 and has a maximum depth of 64,7m. It supplies the needs of water for all the towns around Trotus and also represents a reserve for Bacau County .
Nemira Mountains – belong to the Oriental Carpathians and are hidden in the Ciucului and Vrancei Mountains, full of natural beauties and monuments of nature: the keys and waterfalls of Dofteana, Barzautei waters with numerous falls, Balatau Lake, the regions with mineral springs (on the Slanicului, Oituzului, Dofteanei Valleys) .
Balatau Lake (natural accumulating barrage, a monument of nature, situated in the Nemira Mountains and formed in the summer of 1883 because of some skidding and torrential rains), Uzului Glade, Belci.
Haghiac Dendrology Park – forest reservation gathering numerous species of plants, especially trees: the Oriental pine original from China , Korea , Japan (very rarely seen in Europe ); the park is situated on Dofteanei Valley 13 km north-east from Tg. Ocna and 3 km west from Dofteana.
Ghica Palace and Park from Comanesti, built in the last decade of the 19 th century by Dimitrie N. ghica, presently housing an ethnographic and art museum.
